Woo, I woke up at 1pm today :) Guess I was tired, and it's no surprise. Florida SuperCon was a success I didn't expect, and a wonderful experience all around. I got to sell things, network, run around being a weirdo as well as making new friends (*waving at silvertales*). It was also the first con that my parents attended, and I'm glad they saw me, er..thriving in my natural element. XD

My neighbors' constant doodling inspired me to do the same, so I spent some time sketching what I believe will be my next color piece.

So my life has been a little crazy insane of late (actual relevant info forthcoming in next posts, I swear XD) and I haven't updated in a month but--I've just been informed that my artwork briefly appeared in the 3rd episode of an LA crime show called "Southland".

Backtracking in order to provide some background on this: lingerie store Bizzy B of Hollywood in CA



ordered a couple of big prints from me last year so they could put them up in their fitting rooms.



Next thing I know, the whole thing ends up on NBC. Okay, so it's not like the camera focused on my art specifically or anything, but as doortoriver tells me, this really was a directorial choice. My stuff was deemed appropriate enough to hang there in the shot. T__T

You can catch glimpses of the three prints between 16:50 and 17:40. This segment appears to be about a transexual who works in the store and is being harassed by a couple of unsavory individuals. The cops try to help.

I never realized how exciting my existence actually is, for someone who appears to be a bespectacled, mild mannered skincare salesperson during the day. It's kind of like being a superhero, only, you know, wielding a wacom stylus and a paintbrush. :D :D :D

So. I did make it to Sawgrass Mills on Wednesday morning, and I did get my stuff into another New Age store! Only cards for now, and I'm being told that I can bring my own display if I have one. I really can't wait to see what happens when my stuff is displayed in a high traffic location. I'll have pictures soon, hopefully.

Friday saw me scurrying around at Lipstick Lingerie, replenishing inventory after receiving text messages of the "you must come over LIEK NAO, we're nearly sold out of your shit" variety the day before. Quality time was spent with Naydi, and then some more, before I had to -regretfully- tear myself away and finally drive home.

So I'm still a little sick, my lungs aren't clear yet and talking too much makes me cough, but I'm now back at work--both at the store and with the art. teilea, I just started on the barebones of your commission. ^_^

Now, I'm squeeing because I just got off the phone with Bizzy B--they got the prints, they're happy with them...and want to order three more of the same. SQUEEAGE. I really cannot wait till the first three are hanging in the store.

Isn't it this the prettiest miniature sketchbook? I've always wanted to have something that could fit even in the slimmest of evening purses, and this is definitely it.

I'm in the middle of coloring "Cocoon", and watching season 2 of Supernatural on DVD. Target had a special going on this week, so I got the whole thing for less than $20. So today? Most excellent. Now all I need to do is to get better, and life will be smashing.

AWWWWWW. Lipstick Lingerie is so good to me. I went to see them on Friday to catch up (*sends internet energy drinks to Naydi who looked way too tired for her own good*)for a few hours and refresh the inventory. This is what my display looks like now:

So Wednesday was yet another errand filled day, at the end of which I went around Hollywood blvd and, lo, surprise, took pictures. And got some bizness done.



Okay, so I lied. I also went on the Sunset strip for a bit. Hmm. Movie. Cannot wait.

Yesterday saw me heading up to the Valley, where I visited my favorite pirate captain.



Yeah, we totally practiced our myspace shots in the backyard while waiting for her beau to come pick us up for lunch. :D

Moving forward now. Today and tomorrow are going to be massive insanity.

--This morning: gotta finish packing and reviewing all materials and props for the Art Walk tomorrow and load the car.
--This afternoon: go buy extra lamp at Home Depot and clips at Office depot. Drive up to the Valley yet again to spend the weekend at Kit's house so I can look at her pretty, pretty glass work.
--Tonight: drive not too far back down to Hollywood to ojouchan's place, get dressed, glue sparklies on isako and walk down the street to the Labyrinth of Jareth masquerade.
--Sometime between today and tomorrow: make sure the extra prints Mom fedexed me made it to isako's place.
--Tomorrow at noon: drive to Long Beach.
--Tomorrow 2 pm: set up.
--Tomorrow 4 pm: showtime.
--Sunday: SLEEP.

Yay. So. Le Sexe Shoppe Lipstick Lingerie is now officially carrying my artwork! And it seems to be doing well with their customers, which is another big yay. Also, the wonderful staff is totally making my stuff look awesome, as evidenced by the following pictures:

For reals. Why, you ask? A couple of things.

One, Moka's toe is going to heal just fine. We took him for a check up at the vet yesterday, and she was happy to tell us that no amputation would be needed. OOOH. T_T

Two: last night, I got my stuff into a fabulous store on trendy/chic Las Olas blvd in Fort Lauderdale.



It's.... a really cool lingerie and adult novelty store. Some of you may balk at this, but I assure you, this isn't a creepy joint where you run into shady looking dudes in raincoats. In fact, it's one of those nice women-couples-LGBT friendly places, where you come in to shop in a safe atmosphere, ask questions and try on fun outfits.

Aaah. What a week. But it ain't over yet. After all that excitement, it's back to photoshop with me. I've got a commission to finish. Y'all have a great weekend now. ^_^

So I haven't been totally useless during my sick week, but it kind of amazes me how something that took me this long to churn out on a regular year ended up getting completed in less than a week at a time when I could barely sit up or lift a spoon to feed myself. At any rate, my work is done and my commissioners are happy with it. Score!

So I've been completely out of touch lately. I wish I could blame work, but the truth is, the past couple of weeks have been filled with weird health scares. Namely, I thought I was going blind in one eye. My left eye turned really red for a couple of days (all that with weird, cloudy vision...) and I took myself to the doctor. It seems like tiredness, mild infection and possible contacts overuse were at the source of it. I've rarely had contact issues before, mostly because I immediately switched to glasses when I felt it was needed. Unfortunately, my glasses are no longer suited for driving (although they're perfect for staying at home) so money was shelled out to get another pair for driving. Eye is still a bit red and not all that healed yet, but it's slowly getting better. Serves me right for ignoring cues from my body. -_-

Anyway, on a more positive note, I haz merchandise!!!



The tote bag line is still in its experimental stage, however purpletophat.com was recently updated with bookmarks. Aaaand the commission page. Go see!

Saturday

Art show at the Goddess Store. This one's getting familiar, isn't it? The good news is that I'm definitely doing well during these shows, and they're easy for me to prepare, now that I have all my merch and props ready. The better news is I might get a solo show there come late fall, and that would be all kinds of awesome. That means I'll have to work like mad to produce new pieces, but I have to do that anyway.



Since a post of mine can't seem to do without at least a little picture these days, here are the morenas: me, Goddess Store owner Carmen and fellow artist Stabrula.

Tuesday

I felt a little better physically, so, with doortoriver's help (invaluable help that it is *_*), I worked on updating purpletophat.com.



The Heart Suite is now officially available for purchase on my site!

So I just started on a series of ACEO cards. I named it the "Heart Suite", which is either a very apt or silly frilly name, though I'm happy with how it's turning out so far. This is the second little watercolor I've finished, and its title is "Violet".

And last but not least...woooo....It looks I'm going to be participating in another art show in Florida. Right before leaving for LA. I'm a little excited about this one too--it'll be the first time I show and (hopefully) sell my stuff in an arts & crafts type festival. It'll be held in a lovely Fort Lauderdale park, exactly a month from now. O_O

...time to work even harder, methinks.

I'm so tired I can't even type. This week has been a rollercoaster from saturday to saturday. I cried, I bled, I despaired, got back on my horse and re-entered the ring...and I'm still alive and well. I'm going to flop on the bed and pass out for a few hours and then...I'm going to work.
